Night Of The Vampire See a Problem? VideoNight of the Vampires
In addition the novel features a werewolf who is married to a totally pretentious psychiatrist are there any other kind? The best parts of the novel are: the villains of course.
The original cover art is evocative and epitomizes everything good about sixties paperback art. The novel starts off with a real bang.
The writing is punchy and full of life: descriptions, characters, action all fall into place nicely and the plotting is well handled.
Around the half way mark the writer seems to grow bored with the material. The primary relationship in the book is an endless slog of repetitious dialog and action.
I think what makes the novel difficult is the main female character comes across as having no agency at all all of the female characters are pawns in male hands one way or another.
I understand the point, that the husband has stripped her of all of her vital energy; but, it seems like this could have been presented in a far more interesting way than having her sit around the house or being concerned that people are staring at her at the grocery store.
I remember reading a review of the remake of Nosferatu remember with Klaus Kinski and the review stated that one of the main points of the film was conveying the idea that immortality was boring.
The filmmakers decided that best way to convey the point was to make a boring movie. Well, Night of the Vampires conveys powerlessness by making the reader feel powerlessly trapped in a novel where people spend about a third of novel being boring.
The dullness of the middle section really sucks because the whole plot action of characters being stripped of their self control and will is truly terrifying in the abstract.
Too bad the novel only halfway succeeds in getting that point across in a compelling way. Fortunately, the novel picks up in the final inning and that basically wins the game for Giles.
All in all, this isn't a terrible book, its still far more interesting that the crap passing itself as vampire fiction at our contemporary Barnes and Nobles.
I certainly don't regret having read it, but I can't enthusiastically recommend it either. Final verdict, if you see it pick it up, if for nothing else than the great cover.
This book was strange and a little bit all over the place. Also, there are no real vampires in this book. They are witches that have bargained for the power to turn into giant bats.
Another issue is that the book starts with a scene that is interesting and dramatic, but then when we see the characters they are in completely different scenarios and the scene is never again mentioned.
The most interesting character is killed in pretty short order, even though they talk of him having some kind of This book was strange and a little bit all over the place.
The most interesting character is killed in pretty short order, even though they talk of him having some kind of power, but that never happens.
Needless to say that this story is convoluted and feels trite. Vampire bats, werewolves, and witches' covens collide in this crazy late 60s relic.
A group of high school friends with a dark secret are mysteriously drawn back to their hometown after 13 years, and bloody mayhem erupts.

Killian is desperate to save his friend from a deadly curse when he enters a local voodoo shop in search of help. He doesnt expect to be drawn to Lizzy, the beautiful witch who owns the shop.

However, she cant resist the feelings she Night of the Vampire is an immersive paranormal romance that follows Killian and Lizzy, a vampire and witch who work together to try to save a friend from an evil curse.
Will Lizzy embrace her powers? And can they resist their feelings for each other when fate seems to want them together? The romance between Killian and Lizzy is chemistry-charged and steamy.
They have an intense relationship, and Killian knows from the first meeting that Lizzy is special. Lizzy, however, takes some persuasion.
Because of some terrible happenings in her past, Lizzy hesitates to let Killian get close. I like that Killian has to work a bit to win Lizzy over.
Another highlight of the story is the strong messages about the bonds of friendship and family. They have a long and complex history, and they value each other.
Killian, in particular, is motivated by his love of and loyalty to his friends, and he often puts himself at risk to protect others. Though he has one friend in this close-knit group that has resentments, their unbreakable bond is always present.
I love that Lizzie finds a family in Killian and his clan, which is what she had been missing for most of her life.
Who is targeting them? Will Lizzie and Killian ever catch the evil forces that threaten them? Will Lizzie connect more with her Aunt and work with the coven to develop her skills?
As this is the first novel in the series, I have a feeling all of this and more will be explored in future books. Thanks so much to Netgalley, Everblood Publishing, and the author for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
Nov 21, Dawn Eggleton rated it it was ok. A book of 2 halves. I really enjoyed the start of this book Vampire Killian walks into a voodoo shop in New Orleans looking for the new witch in town who can save the life of his friend from another witches curse.
Enter Lizzy and her elderly dog Wiggles who not only hasn't got a clue what he is talking about also doesn't believe in magic.
The relationship that develops between them is really interesting and a great read and then they discover that they are fated as mates. Lizzy obviously freaked A book of 2 halves.
Lizzy obviously freaked out by this asserts her independence both from him and her aunt who happens to be high priestess of the family coven of witches.
This is where the book deviates and loses its magic. There has been building up about a historical war between the vampires and witches that is suddenly dropped with no further development.
The biggest dissapointment though is plot that had been built through the first two thirds of the story about some danger to Lizzy and the vampires and the need for her to be protected when bam Lizzy and Killian have lots of spectacular sex, danger forgotten apparently and he tries to be noble and send her away to live her dream even though it may kill him.
This to me felt like a huge chunk of the story had either been edited out or a second writer took over.
The magical story building between the witches and vampires along with Killian and lizzy was just ended when the sex scenes started and that's when it went from great story to bonk fest.
A few pages at the end setting up the next book and the story of the next character is unfortunately not enough to get me to read as this book left me feeling unsatisfied and that it was unfinished.
Oct 18, Kassandra Blake rated it really liked it Shelves: arc , reviews-done , paranormal-romance. Being a fan of vampires and paranormal romance, I thought to myself that I absolutely had to read this title after reading its synopsis.
The only negative point being the length of the synopsis. The created universe revolves around vampires and witches and the story takes place in New Orleans.
We discover several characters that we appreciate more or less. Killian is the typical alpha male who is used to being obeyed and getting what he wants.
At times he annoyed me but what do you expect, he's a Being a fan of vampires and paranormal romance, I thought to myself that I absolutely had to read this title after reading its synopsis.
At times he annoyed me but what do you expect, he's a vampire. Lizzy will destabilize him but it works both ways. Everything she finds disturbs her and that's normal.
I won't jump for joy either. My reading was enjoyable although I wasn't as excited about the story as I expected. My interest was more on a secondary character.
Hope it will be different when her tome arrives. I discovered the pen of L. Wilson and that this series is part of the same universe as "Deathless Night" which I intend to read since the first volume is already in my to read list.
The second book in the series will focus on Kenya, which I really appreciate. I noted it in my wishlist and I intend to not miss it.
